Hi my name is Jacqueline I have just joined.  I have been really busy with craft fairs and selling online last year so this year I want to branch out into wholesale.  Do any of you sell wholesale and if so can you share your experiences please.

Hi Jacqueline. I get a fair number of trade enquiries and it is good to get regular orders but it hurts a bit when you realise that the profit will be made by someone else! A good mix of trade and retail is probably the ideal scenario.

I'd love to know too! We'd love to branch out into selling to retailers and it seems a bit daunting at the moment because I don't know much about it. Would love to hear others' experiences too!

Saw Stuart's tweet tonight about this.

I sell my products to trade and also do 4 or 5 tried and tested fairs a year too. From my point of view I much prefer selling to trade, it suits in with my life. I don't have to stand out in the cold or wet trying to sell to people who only want to look but not buy. I don't have to pay out sometimes huge stand fees only to find that the event organiser was "massaging" the number of attendees to his/her show.

Instead I get to stay home making my products, retailers generally work on 2.4 times the trade price to get the retail price so you will need to do some homework to make sure this fits in with your plans and that there is profit in it for you. Building a portfolio of retailers is also hard work, be prepared for a lot of rejections or just silence (maybe that's just me?) but it is possible!

I agree with Philip that a mix of retail & trade is a good place to be. I wouldn't be without either.
